Really, an odd choice. Is someone who happens to be the same gender as Hillary, but has far more conservative politics, really going to win over moderate middle-class women voters? Do they really think that gender alone decides it for those people?
It's going to take a few days (or maybe months) to see how this plays out. But it's going to look like an odd pick until proven otherwise; it totally undercuts the "experience" argument they'd been using, it makes McCain look even older by comparison, and it doesn't give them any better chances at getting one of the states under contention.
At least she's up to speed; there's already an ongoing ethics investigation.
